Head of IT Projects - Enterprise Applications - ERP - Somerset - £60k pa

Our major international Engineering Design and Manufacturing client is looking for an experienced Head of IT Projects to join their expanding team based in Somerset.


  • In addition to leading significant projects, overseeing the full project portfolio to share interdependencies and recommending trade-offs and phasing to manage competing resourcing and budget demands.

  • Leading and monitoring projects to ensure delivery on time, on budget and to required quality levels.

  • Implementing and managing project gate reviews with the CIO to ensure each project has a robust business case, controls and delivery plan.

  • Defining and maintaining standards for successful execution including documentation and metrics related to portfolio, programme, and project management.

  • Managing contracts and schedules; including the development, direction and quality assurance of contracts.

  • Managing project performance via operational KPIs, monthly reviews and other metrics.

  • Initiating communication and improvement activities to ensure maximum alignment of the IT and business priorities.

  • Performing risk management and mitigation - evaluating data to prevent project problems and  intervening to resolve issues where required.

  • Managing staff within the project management team - coaching individuals in adopting improved project and portfolio management disciplines, fostering a supporting and agile working within the team.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • It is expected that you will have at least 4 years experience of working as Head of IT Projects in an enterprise environment with good ERP knowledge and experience.

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification / experience.

  • Competent user of MS Office systems, including Excel, Powerpoint and Project or similar project management package.

  • Track record of career progression as a Project / Programme Manager for large and complex change projects, implementing and operating PMO/ITIL change management processes.

  • PMI / Prince / PPM and ITIL qualifications.

  • Change management experience covering geographically diverse areas.

  • Exposure to IT operations management and good knowledge of IT governance processes.

  • Experience working with lean and agile methodologies.
